Abstract

The present study was aimed to estimate Toxoplasma gondii occurrence among immunocompromised patients Renal Failure (RF) patients in Kirkuk city / Iraq. A total of 71 sera were drown from renal failure patients attending to dialysis unit of Kirkuk general Hospital and 48 individuals having a normal immune system as healthy control. The serological were tested for toxoplasma antibodies using four types of test. Result of Latex Agglutination Test indicated that out of 71 sera examined 41(57.7%) were positive and 22(45.8%) for control group, without significant differences between them.                                                     The overall rate of Toxoplasmosis in (RF) patients using Modified Latex Agglutination Test (2-ME) was 25(35.21%), 12(25%) for patients & control group respectively, the differences between them was statistically significant. While Rapid test-Cassette showed 14(19.72%), 0(0%) for IgG, IgM for patients group comparing with control group 5(10.4%), 0(0%), for IgG, IgM respectively with significant differences. Using ELISA test (30.9%), (16.6%) of the sera were seropositive for anti- toxoplasma antibodies IgG while (2.82%), (6.25%)  for patients & control group sera were positive for anti- toxoplasma antibodies IgM moreover common infection was1(1.41%), 3(6.25%).Relationship between toxoplasma antibody distribution with patient age was significant  and the high rate was (75%), (25%) in the age group 71-81 year for IgG, IgM respectively .The infection rate in female was higher than those in male (40.63%), (23.08%),(3.1%),(2.56%) for female &male in  IgG, IgM respectively without significant.           Considered patients residency acute & chronic infection were higher recorder among patients from urban area and the rate was (36.3%),(26.3%) than rural area patients (6%),(0%) without significant, and the results of non-officer showed higher rate than officer by (33.8%),(3.08%)  for IgG, IgM with statistically significant differences.
